This piece was fired in a wood-soda kiln in a spot where it did not get hit with very much of the soda ash introduced into the atmosphere during the firing. The resulting surface is a soft semi-matte, with the rim and base being the only glassy parts. Despite its dramatic red flashing, the true beauty of this bud vase is in the subtle transitions and depth of visual texture where the body was struck by a little of the ash.

note: while the unlgazed interior can feel somewhat dry and/or rough, the clay did get hot enough to vitrify and will hold water
